Diagnostic Methods
- 1Physical examination

- 3Hepatitis C testing
- 4Differential diagnosis (lichenoid drug eruption)
- 5Patch testing (if suspected allergic)
Prognosis
Usually self-limiting within 1-2 years, but can be chronic. Oral and nail forms more persistent. Small risk of oral cancer with mucosal forms requiring monitoring. Cutaneous forms may leave hyperpigmentation.
Prevention
- Screen for hepatitis C
- Avoid triggering medications if possible
- Stress management
- Regular dental/oral exams (oral form)
- Sun protection
- Avoid trauma to skin
Research Status
Topical corticosteroids first-line. Oral corticosteroids for severe cases. Phototherapy effective for widespread disease. Treat underlying hepatitis C if present. Regular monitoring for oral cancer in mucosal forms.
