Adenomyosis
A condition where the inner lining of the uterus (endometrium) breaks through the muscle wall of the uterus (myometrium). Can cause menstrual cramps, lower abdominal pressure, and bloating before menstrual periods. Often coexists with endometriosis.

Prognosis
Benign condition with good prognosis. Symptoms often improve after menopause. With hormonal treatment, 60-80% experience symptom relief. Uterine artery embolization provides 70-90% improvement at 3 years. Hysterectomy provides permanent cure. Fertility may be compromised; pregnancy possible but higher risk of miscarriage and preterm delivery.

Research Status
